| Political ties between China and Japan have at times been cordial since the end of World War ll, but there is a clear animosity amongst the general population in China towards Japan. The animosity stems from the wartime atrocities commited by the Japanaese army throughout China. Twice in the past year Chinese aggression towards the Japanese has boiled over, Once last year during the Asian Soccer Cup final and then again this year during Anti-Japan protests that began in the capital and spread to other cities in China.
